Have you ever wondered how can a whiff of rosemary improve your memory? Science has the answer to your question. Experts have proven that this herb can increase the memory by 75%. If you check historical records more thoroughly, you will find some strong evidence that backs up this fact. The Tudors used rosemary as they believed it has the power to improve memory.

“There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance” is a powerful line from Hamlet. Experts also explain that rosemary oil can help alertness and arithmetic. So, Shakespeare was absolutely right when he said that rosemary improves our memory. Researchers also showed that sniffing rosemary oil helps us to remember to do things.

Why a whiff of rosemary DOES help you remember: Sniffing the herb can increase memory by 75%

• The Tudors believed rosemary had powers to enhance memory
• In Hamlet, Ophelia says ‘There’s rosemary that’s for remembrance’
• Researchers have found the oil helps alertness and arithmetic

Shakespeare was right in saying rosemary can improve your memory.

Researchers have found for the first time that essential oil from the herb when sniffed in advance enables people to remember to do things.

It could help patients take their medication on time, it is claimed, or even help the forgetful to post a birthday card.

In a series of tests rosemary essential oil from the herb increased the chances of remembering to do things in the future, by 60-75 per cent compared with people who had not been exposed to the oil.

Other studies have shown the oil increases alertness and enhances long-term memory.

Rosemary has been long been linked to memory, with the most famous literary reference found in Hamlet when Ophelia declares: ‘There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance: pray, love, remember.’ It is used in modern-day herbal medicine as a mild painkiller and for migraines and digestive problems.

A team of psychologists at Northumbria University, Newcastle, tested the effects of essential oils from rosemary.

Dr Mark Moss, who will present the findings today at the British Psychology Society conference in Harrogate, said the benefit of aromas was becoming clear through scientific investigation.

He said ‘We wanted to build on our previous research that indicated rosemary aroma improved long-term memory and mental arithmetic.

‘In this study we focused on prospective memory, which involves the ability to remember events that will occur in the future and to remember to complete tasks at particular times. This is critical for everyday functioning, for example when someone needs to remember to post a birthday card or to take medication at a particular time.’

Rosemary essential oil was diffused in to a testing room by placing four drops on an aroma stream fan diffuser and switching this on five minutes before people entered the room.

Altogether 66 people took part in the study and were randomly allocated to either the rosemary-scented room or another room with no scent.

In each room participants completed a test designed to assess their prospective memory functions.

Herb lore: William Shakespeare referred to rosemary’s power to enhance the memory in Ophelia¿s line in Hamlet

This included tasks such as hiding objects and asking participants to find them at the end of the test and instructing them to pass a specified object to the researcher at a particular time.  All the tasks had to be done with no prompting but if the task was not performed then different degrees of prompting were used.

The more prompting that was used the lower the score. The volunteers, all healthy adults, also completed questionnaires assessing their mood. Blood was taken from volunteers and analysed to see if performance levels and changes in mood following exposure to the rosemary aroma were related to concentrations of a compound known as 1,8-cineole present in the blood.

The compound is also found in the essential oil of rosemary and has previously been shown to act on the biochemical systems that underpin memory. The results showed that participants in the rosemary-scented room performed better on the prospective memory tasks than the participants in the room with no scent. This was the case for remembering events, remembering to complete tasks at particular times, and the speed of recall.

The results from the blood analysis found that significantly greater amounts of 1,8-cineole were present in the plasma of those in the rosemary scented room, suggesting that sniffing the aroma led to higher concentrations.

Previous research suggests volatile molecules from essential oils can be absorbed into the bloodstream through the nose.

The chemicals also stimulate the olfactory nerve in the nose directly, which could have effects on brain functioning.

Researcher Jemma McCready said ‘The difference between the two groups was 60-75 per cent, for example one group would remember to do seven things compared with four tasks completed by those who did not smell the oil, and they were quicker.‘We deliberately set them a lot of tasks, so it’s possible that people who multi-task could function better after sniffing rosemary oil.

’ Miss McCready said ‘There was no link between the participants’ mood and memory. This suggests performance is not influenced as a consequence of changes in alertness or arousal.‘These findings may have implications for treating individuals with memory impairments.

‘It supports our previous research indicating that the aroma of rosemary essential oil can enhance cognitive functioning in healthy adults, here extending to the ability to remember events and to complete tasks in the future.

‘Remembering when and where to go and for what reasons underpins everything we do, and we all suffer minor failings that can be frustrating and sometimes dangerous. ‘Further research is needed to investigate if this treatment is useful for older adults who have experienced memory decline’ she added.

The Plague Is Here, With 124 Dead. Are Americans At Risk?

Most, only know the “black death” from history books. So, it’s hard to imagine an infectious disease that once killed 50 million people re-emerging in parts of the world. But the truth is, the plague never left. Madagascar, for instance, regularly experiences outbreaks each year. But, this time, experts warn things are very different. The plague has now become airborne. Meaning it can spread from person to person, into surrounding countries and perhaps beyond.

The plague is spreading fast
In early history when the plague was widespread and without treatment, it often turned limbs black, which is why it was dubbed the “black death.” Yersinia pestis is the bacteria behind the “black death.” It typically spreads through the bite of infected fleas, often carried by rats, causing the plague.

While many have heard of the plague, they assume it’s merely a dark part of human history, never to return. But the truth is, this potentially deadly bacteria still lingers throughout the world — even in the U.S. Now, an outbreak in Madagascar has become an even bigger threat to the region. It’s spreading faster than in previous years, according to reports, and threatening nine surrounding countries.

Here’s what we know about Madagascar so far
CNN reports that the plague outbreak in Madagascar is continuing to spread at extraordinary speed, with 124 deaths and more than 1,200 infected, and those figures are growing daily. The outbreak is considered a larger threat to the region than in previous years because it has advanced to pneumonic form. That means it has become airborne and can spread from person to person, through sneezes and coughs. The incubation period is short, and an infected person, if not treated quickly, can die within 12 to 24 hours. While the country experiences regular outbreaks, with an estimated 400 cases of plague each year, this time things are very different, warn experts.

This year, the plague arrived earlier than expected, and the infection began spreading to urban centers and in areas that until now had not been affected, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr. Ashok Chopra, a professor of microbiology and immunology at the University of Texas, told The Sun that the crisis in Madagascar had not yet peaked, and warned that it was possible for the deadly plague to move further into the region since regular flights were moving in and out of the country.

In fact, warnings by WHO have been issued for nine countries surrounding Madagascar amid fears the disease could spread via sea trade and flight routes. These countries include Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Reunion, Mauritius, Seychelles and Comoros. Tourists have been warned to stay away from Madagascar after the outbreak.

Open sores filled with pus, aches, pains, fever and chills
There are two main forms of plague infection, say WHO, either bubonic or pneumonic, depending on the route of infection. Luckily, all forms are treatable and curable if detected early enough. The Bubonic plague is most common globally, and is caused by the bite of an infected flea. The mortality rate is 30 to 60 percent. The bacteria enter at the bite and travel through the lymphatic system to the nearest lymph node where it spreads. Symptoms include painful and inflamed lymph nodes that can lead to open sores filled with pus. Additionally, the plague brings fever, chills, head and body aches, weakness, vomiting and nausea.

Human to human transmission of bubonic plague is rare. But when the bubonic plague advances and spreads to the lungs, a more severe type of plague is born called pneumonic plague, which is what we’re now seeing in Madagascar. Left untreated and undiagnosed in early stages, the disease leads to death. But, recovery rates are high, says WHO, if it’s detected and treated within 24 hours of onset of symptoms.

What are the chances of the plague spreading to the U.S.?
The plague was first introduced into the United States in 1900, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Between 1900 and 2012, 1,006 confirmed cases of plague occurred in the U.S. Over 80 percent of the cases were the bubonic form. Recently, there has been an average of seven cases reported each year. Plague occurs in rural and semi-rural areas of the western United States, with the most common states being southwestern states, particularly New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado.

Meanwhile, the risk of further spread within Madagascar, nationally, remains very high, according to a report from WHO. And the risk of regional spread is moderate due to neighboring islands and southern and east African countries. However, “the risk of international spread is currently low, because generally, people with plague are too sick to travel,” reports CNN. WHO is also working closely with Madagascar’s airport authorities to ensure sanitary measures are in place at airports and ports to prevent the spread of infection outside the country.

The plague is a disease of poverty, because it thrives in places with poor sanitary conditions and health services,” says Dr. Arthur Rakotonjanabelo, for WHO in Madagascar. While there is currently no vaccinations for the plague, antibiotics are extremely helpful.

So, does this mean Americans should be concerned that pneumonic plague will soon spread to the U.S. Probably not, but you should certainly stay well informed and avoid visiting countries with current outbreaks and rising death tolls.

Mom finds 5 year old son bruised in bed, then he says 5 words that make her tears flow

Christmas is nearly here and many families are stressed. Presents need to be bought, food prepared, and Santa needs to be prepped.

But sadly, Christmas, which is meant to be a joyous time, also causes a whole lot of arguments and fights in some homes.

Mom Bridgette Payne in Oklahoma went out to buy some presents on December 16th this year and left her 5 year old with her boyfriend Wesley McCollom.

When she came home, she was confused to find that  the little boy was in bed. He never normaly goes to bed early.

Wesley explained that he’d sent the boy to bed early after he had opened some presents under the tree without permission.

When the mom went to check on him, she found he was covered in bruises. She also saw a blue and yellow handprint on the child’s cheek, reports The Miami Herald.

“Words cannot explain seeing your baby like this and having no clue what happened,” Bridgette wrote on her Facebook page.

“Wesley hurt me bad, mamma,” was all the little boy said when Bridgette asked him what happened.

Bridgette was heartbroken when she saw her son and couldn’t stop crying. Then she called the police.

The police came to Bridgette’s house just after 10 pm and arrested Wesley for child abuse and neglect, reports news channel KJRH.

Bridgette says Wesley tried to explain his actions by saying he “wanted to teach the boy a lesson” and that he needed to “learn to listen.”

Bridgette had never seen violent tendencies in Wesley during the 10 months they had been together.

She had previously been in an abusive relationship with her child’s father, and had promised to never again be in that situation after nearly being killed while her son watched.

“There is an evil inside of some people no one sees and that’s how this happened,” Bridgette wrote on Facebook. “If I could change places with my son in a heartbeat I would.”

Her Facebook post quickly spread across the internet. Within just a few days the post had been shared 8000 times.

Girl is raped by 4 boys: 2 yrs later, her mother makes a terrible discovery in the bathroom

Being a teenager is often a hard time in a person’s life. Your body is changing, you’re struggling to find yourself, and you care too much about what others think.

Some people remember their teenage years as a fun time in their lives, but many would like to forget about their time in middle school and high school. Why? Because children can be awful to one another and have not yet learned to take full responsibility for their actions.

Rehtaeh Parsons from Darthmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada was only 15 in 2011 when she attended a party with a friend. Unfortunately, the party would be the beginning of hell for the young girl — a hell that would eventually end in tragedy.

Rehtaeh was raped by four classmates that night. To make matters worse, one of them photographed the abuse and spread the photos around their school.

Image result for Girl is raped by 4 boys: 2 yrs later, her mother makes a terrible discovery in the bathroom

Rehtaeh did not dare to tell her mother, Leah, right away. But, a few days later, she broke down.

Leah immediately drove her daughter to the hospital, but no one was interested in helping Rehtaeh.

The police didn’t even question the boys about what happened that night, and no effort was made to track down the phone that contained the photographs.

After a year, the case was dropped due to lack of evidence.

Meanwhile, Rehtaeh’s life became a living hell. She was bullied both in school and online, and everyone, even her friends had turned on her. In addition to having to live with the emotional scars of the horrible event, she was reminded of what happened, every single day.

For example, she would get messages from students asking her for sex. Her life was terrible and she was struggling to get through each day.

“They never left her alone. She had to leave the community. Her friends turned on her. People harassed her … It never stopped,” Rehtaeh’s mother told CBS.

She was depressed and withdrawn. Eventually, things became so bad that Rehtaeh no longer wanted to live.

Here’s what she wrote on her Facebook page on March 3rd, 2013:
“At the end we will not remember the words of our enemies, without the silence of our friends.”

17 months after the attack, Rehtaeh killed herself in the family’s bathroom. By the time her mother got there, it was too late.

Rehtaeh had serious brain injuries and was taken to hospital. A few days later, her parents decided to turn off the machines that kept their daughter alive. The chance that she would wake up again was almost nonexistent.

The police never charged a single person. They claimed that there was insufficient evidence.

Rehtaeh’s father, Glen Canning, said his daughter died of disappointment, rather than being bullied to death, because neither the school nor the police did anything to help her.

Over and over, we hear stories about children that are bullied, but are unable to get the help that they need.

Their parents do everything in their power, but no one wants to listen. And the bullies get to go to school and live their lives as if nothing happened.

We must do something to change this. I never again want to hear that a child has taken his or her own life because they felt that society had abandoned them.

Even if you’re not a teacher, principal, or police, we can all contribute to making the world a better place for our children. Pay attention to your children and their problems. Ask children how they are feeling, and set a good example through your own actions.

You can make a difference.

Share this article if you agree that we need to do more to fight bullying and to ensure that the bullies are punished, not the victim!

A heartless Chinese peasant proceeded to skin a dog while the animal was still alive and cook him for lunch. A friend joined him, but rather than try stopping him, he documented the entire scene, taking numerous photos while laughing and cheering.

The anual Yulin dog meat festival – which is set to commence in June – is the main focus on animal rights activists in China.

But dog meat is not consumed during this outrageous dog eating festival, but rather over the course of the entire year, all across the country. Estimates point out that at least 10 million dogs are cooked each year in the world’s most populous country.

The system is extremely well organized. Dog snatchers – who are paid on commission – are having their hands full trying to get ahold of as many dogs as they can.

They are taken away street dogs (and claim they are actually doing society a favour, because street dogs are considered unhygienic), but are also stealing people’s pets.

These highly trained people jump onto people’s properties and escape with the dogs in just a matter of seconds – this is how much the dog meat trade has evolved.

In the rural areas of China, farmers routinely catch dogs and cook them. Canines can be found everywhere and there is absolutely no problem is finding the raw materials necessary for a juicy steak or marvelous dog stew (as residents like to put it).

Take this farmer for instance: he was extremely fond of a dog barbecue in that particular day, so he went out and returned home with his meal in a very short period of time.

This is the true face of China, not what they show you on TV, on social media or in magazines! Sadly, the dog is powerless to escape and is poised to end up on the man’s plate in no time.

Dog meat consumption can be traced all the way to Ancient China. The Chinese believe dog meat brings substantial health benefits to the human body; others believe it brings good fortune (superstitions).

The reality is that eating dogs causes nothing but trouble for humans: numerous diseases and infections that can cause significant health risks for humans have been associated with dog meat, including parasites such as E. Coli 107, rabies and salmonella.

There is also a danger of bacterial infections such as brucellosis and hepatitis. This has yet to discourage the Chinese population for eating dogs, but the government has a duty to put the life of its citizens above anything, and this is currently not happening.

Please take a stand against this sick and vile trade and urge Chinese officials to seriously consider a ban on dog meat consumption. First of all, dogs are not food, they make great pets and valuable companions – they are truly man’s best friend.

Secondly, as previously mentioned before, dog meat poses significant health risks for humans, which costs the Chinese government important sums of money in health care each year.

Banning dog meat would significantly decrease these costs and would shore up valuable funds. Thirdly, Chinese have claimed that dog meat has become a tradition, deeply embedded in their culture.

We must hereto point out that no culture is stagnant, everyone can evolve and progress. Just because something wrong has been done for a very long time certainly doesn’t make it right!

Please share the campaign if you are against eating man’s best friend.

Thank you!

Hollywood Icon Kirk Douglas Celebrates 101st Birthday And Even Gets Up To Greet His Guests…

Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas celebrated his 101st birthday and even got up to greet his guests! Best known for his role in Spartacus (1960), he just celebrated his 101st birthday. The legend of the silver screen, although a little rough around the edges, was able to celebrate his first birthday past 100 years, alongside his wife Anne who is 98 years herself.
The two were surrounded by family and friends outside their home, greeting photographers and thanking everyone for showing up.

Kirk and his wife Anne have celebrated 63 years of marriage together, wedding in 1954 after his previous marriage to Diana Douglas, who passed away in 2015 from cancer. Kirk had 4 children (one with Diana, the others with Anne), including Michael Douglas (who went into acting himself), Joel Douglas, Peter Douglas, and Eric Douglas.
Here, Kirk Douglas and his wife Anne Douglas are seen sitting in matching chair walkers outside of their home, with an enormous wreath that reads “101” made out of carnations.

Kirk met his wife Anne shortly after his divorce with Diana Douglas and married her in 1964. The two have been together now for 63 years.

Mind Blowing Nestle CEO Says “WATER IS NOT A HUMAN RIGHT”

Image result for Mind Blowing Nestle CEO Says “WATER IS NOT A HUMAN RIGHT”

Is water a free and basic human right, or should all the water on the planet belong to major corporations and be treated as a product? Should the poor who cannot afford to pay these said corporations suffer from starvation due to their lack of financial wealth?

According to the former CEO and now Chairman of the largest food product manufacturer in the world, corporations should own every drop of water on the planet — and you’re not getting any unless you pay up.

The company notorious for sending out hordes of ‘internet warriors’ to defend the company and its actions online in comments and message boards (perhaps we’ll find some below) even takes a firm stance behind Monsanto’s GMOs and their ‘proven safety’. In fact, the former Nestle CEO actually says that his idea of water privatization is very similar to Monsanto’s GMOs. In a video interview, Nestle Chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe states that there has never been ‘one illness’ ever caused from the consumption of GMOs.

The way in which this sociopath clearly has zero regard for the human race outside of his own wealth and the development of Nestle, who has been caught funding attacks against GMO labeling, can be witnessed when watching and listening to his talk on the issue. This is a company that actually goes into struggling rural areas and extracts the groundwater for their bottled water products, completely destroying the water supply of the area without any compensation. In fact, they actually make rural areas in the United States foot the bill.

As reported on by Corporate Watch, Nestle and former CEO Peter Brabeck-Letmathe have a long history of disregarding public health and abusing the environment to take part in the profit of an astounding $35 billion in annual profit from water bottle sales alone. The report states:

“Nestlé production of mineral water involves the abuse of vulnerable water resources. In the Serra da Mantiqueira region of Brazil, home to the “circuit of waters” park whose groundwater has a high mineral content and medicinal properties, over-pumping has resulted in depletion and long-term damage.”

Nestle has also come under fire over the assertion that they are actually conducting business with massive slavery rings. Another Corporate Watch entry details:

“In 2001, Nestlé faced criticism for buying cocoa from the Ivory Coast and Ghana, which may have been produced using child slaves.[58] According to an investigative report by the BBC, hundreds of thousands of children in Mali, Burkina Faso and Togo were being purchased from their destitute parents and shipped to the Ivory Coast, to be sold as slaves to cocoa farms.”

So is water a human right, or should it be owned by big corporations? Well, if water is not here for all of us, then perhaps air should be owned by major corporations as well. And as for crops, Monsanto is already working hard to make sure their monopoly on our staple crops and beyond is well situated. It should really come as no surprise that this Nestle Chairman fights to keep Monsanto’s GMOs alive and well in the food supply, as his ideology lines right up with that of Monsanto.

An absolute giant of moose goes down in Alaska. Israel Payton may have his hands on the new world record moose.

World record animals being harvested always gain a lot of attention. Of course, a moose is not going to catch the attention that a world record whitetail would, but a record is sure to turn some heads.

And the news of a new world record moose being broke is doing just that.

Israel Payton, an Alaskan, may have just harvested the world record moose with a successful hunt on this whopping bull. It is said the bull is coming in at an incredible score of 80 inches.
Outstanding bull to say the least.

Despite the alarming number of people who have denied climate change, including the U.S. president, there’s plenty of evidence to prove not only that it’s happening, but that we’re the ones causing it.

Global temperatures are rising, shrinking ice sheets, making glaciers retreat, and taking away animals’ natural habitats. National geographic photographer Paul Nicklen became the unfortunate witness to the devastating effects global warming has on Earth’s creatures when he came across a starving polar bear during an expedition in the Baffin Islands.

Seals are the main staple of a polar bear’s diet, but with sea ice melting, they’re much more difficult to come by. This emaciated bear likely died of starvation shortly after being filmed.
